The 2015 sailing season will be soon in full swing at East Grand Lake, a mere 25 miles south of Houlton on Route 1. If you dream of learning how to sail or are looking to be more active, this is the perfect setting.
A group of small-boat sailing enthusiasts from the Peter’s Cove Yacht Club will be gathering to race on three Saturdays this summer: July 18, Aug. 1 and Aug. 15. Classes of sailboats usually include Laser, Lightning, a gaff-rigged schooner, a Columbia 24, O’Day Daysailers and Hobie Cats, but you do not need to own a sailboat to get acquainted with the sport. You are welcome to come as an observer by calling in advance of the races.
Enjoy this beautiful international lake located along the Canadian/American border between Orient and Fosterville, N.B. Winds are variable, but mostly light. Racing starts at 1 p.m. and finishes usually within two hours. Potluck suppers follow where “sailing chatter” is lively.
If you have your own sailboat or are thinking of buying one or if you want to find out more call PCYC’s Paul LaPointe, 207-532-7926, for information. A free public boat launch is nearby.
