HOULTON — Alessandro Cavalcante is the latest addition to the staff at Houlton Regional Hospital. Cavalcante is a physician’s assistant at Houlton Family Practice.

A native of Brazil, Cavalcante came to the United States in 1999. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at Union College, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He then worked as a Physician Assistant in Quincy, Washington at the Quincy Community Health Center and most recently at The Lung Clinic in Kissimmee, Fla.
Cavalcante and his wife, Jennifer, and son, Sullivan, moved to Houlton in March joining Houlton Family Practice on April 1. His wife is from Miramichi, New Brunswick, and is glad to be closer to her family. They are expecting identical twin boys this summer.
“When we knew our family was to become larger, it was time to be closer to family and the boys to be near their grandparents”, explained Alessandro. “That started the search. We found Houlton Regional Hospital on a website and being on the border of Woodstock, New Brunswick was ideal. Our communication began with Janene Moran, physician recruiter, of Houlton Regional Hospital. We arrived in Houlton to interview the end of January. There was a huge snowstorm that weekend and our return flight to Florida was even cancelled for a few days. It was quite an adventure. However, after meeting administration and staff, we searched no further and began making preparations for our move.”
He continued, “We have found everyone in Houlton and the hospital to be so welcoming and friendly. I find the patients to be very appreciative. In just a short time of being in Houlton and working at Houlton Regional Hospital, I feel at home already.”
