HOULTON, Maine — The County Co-Op and Farm Store is now featuring artwork of Houlton High School’s advanced art class on its front window. As a part of the students final project, seniors Ella Glatter and Caleigh Sullivan; juniors Erika Fitzpatrick, Allix Hanson and Angel Melvin; and sophomore Brandon Jay worked together, under the direction of their teacher, Pam Chernesky, to create a mural that represents both the Co-op and Aroostook County.
“It features seasonal local produce and a highlighted map of Maine,” said Roxanne Bruce, a marketing specialist who has been working with the Co-op. “It is a must see from both sides of the glass to understand the techniques and see the hidden messages that the students used to create the design.”
The intent was to bring a new, vibrant visual element to the downtown business.
The County Co-Op and Farm Store is located on Main Street in Houlton and is open Monday – Friday from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Some of the products that you can find there are local farm fresh produce, local honey, organic bulk dry goods like lentils, rice, flour and beans. The Co-Op also has fresh pastries from local chefs and fresh garden salads.
