Most of the “Halls of Houlton” are closed for the summer, but the district’s Adult Education program at the Houlton Higher Education Center will remain open through the summer. Our regular spring term ended on June 11 when the 18 graduates of 2015 from our program were recognized for completing their high school diploma or their HiSET high school equivalency certification (formerly the GED).
All of our graduates are counseled to continue their education and also receive career information matching their interests and abilities. This summer, we are offering HiSET and high school completion classes on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from July 7 to Aug. 13. There is no cost to Maine residents for high school completion or the HiSET.
Beginning July 8, we are also offering another session of Maine College Transitions (MCT), consisting of refresher courses, financial aid advising, and college admissions counseling. MCT has proven very beneficial to recent high school graduates and to adults who graduated a few years ago and have decided that it is time to “Take the Step You’ll Never Regret”. This program is offered three mornings a week for six weeks at a very low cost with needs-based scholarships available. Interested students should call our office before July 6 to schedule a College Transitions appointment.
