Joyce and Diane Curry, former residents of Island Falls, have recently visited in Houlton with their sister-in-law, Mrs. Lewis Curry, and her son, Father Terrence Curry, instead of staying at the Curry homestead here in Island Falls.
Their visit wasn’t too long but they did manage to get to their hometown and do a bit of visiting. They plan to return in a few weeks and will then be staying at the Curry homestead and will make ready for the upcoming Summer Fest, which will be in August.
Tom Hawkes and son, Chris, have been recent visitors at Riva’s home, and while here they really did a pile of outdoor work, some of which required the work of a chainsaw, as there were several dead tree limbs here and there. They also cleared away a few small trees that were threatening Kicky’s rhubarb patch by being too close.
The weather was nice but the flies were a bit of a problem. Regardless, it was all done in an hour or so and all went to the takeaway and had a quick lunch before heading back to Glenburn.
I finally put some bird seed in my feeders and I guess the birds had a grand time, as the feeders were sure empty by the next day. My hummingbird feeder was about empty, so had to fill that up. Cold weather makes all my feathered friends hungry, it seems.
I haven’t had any more groundhogs digging near my flower garden, but have noticed recently, while mowing, that the skunks have been around and have been busy digging small holes in my lawn while looking for grubs. Found quite a few holes while mowing and filled most of them in. The pesky things will, no doubt, dig some more.
I have had one lone deer appearing down back, but no little ones seen so far, though I still keep looking.
