HOULTON – Donald “Pat” Swallow, 91, passed away June 24, 2015, at a local healthcare facility. He was born Feb. 5, 1924 in Oakfield, the son of Harry and Thursie (Parker) Swallow.
Pat grew up in Oakfield, the eldest of six children, and graduated from Oakfield High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the European and South Pacific Theaters. Upon leaving the service, Pat moved to Houlton where he worked for the Houlton Water Company, coached Little League and taught an Adult Ed electrical course. In 1970, Pat started his own company, Swallow’s Electric, and was joined shortly thereafter by his son, Doug. Pat continued to work until he was 80 years old, while still finding time to attend the numerous grand and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. Pat was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, trapping and spending time at the hunting camp with his family. His family meant the world to him and teasing his grandchildren was a source of great delight and laughter. Pat was a wonderful caregiver to his wife Gloria and beneath that gruff exterior was a heart of gold.
Pat is survived by his children, Doug Swallow and his wife, Patty, of Houlton, Susan Callnan and her husband, Tim, of Florida, Jan Burns of Dresden, Donald Swallow, Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Medway; son-in-law, Lloyd Cutting of Winthrop; numerous grand-children and great- grand-children; his siblings, Lewis “Mike” Swallow and his wife, Mary, of Oakfield, Laura “Sis” McLaughlin of Dyer Brook, Kenneth Swallow, Sr. and his wife, Priscilla “Sida” of Houlton, Halden Swallow of Oakfield; sister-in-law, Marjorie Swallow of Oakfield; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Gloria; his daughter, Lana Cutting; and a brother, Joe Swallow. The family would like to express the sincere thank you to Dr. Sussman and the staff at Madigan Estates for the exceptional care given to Pat.
Friends called at the First Baptist Church Monday, June 29, at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Ashley officiating. A time of refreshment and remembrance was held at the church following the committal service. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery with Military honors.
