Ark Animal Sanctuary

I would just like to thank everyone for all of prayers and encouragement they have shown for a little kitten named Rocky. For those of you who don’t know, Rocky is a little 9-week-old kitten with an amazing rescue to tell. In the early morning hours of June 24 at about 4 a.m. this little kitten was doused with a bottle of rubbing alcohol and thrown from a second story window out onto Mechanic street. For those of you who don’t know, rubbing alcohol lowers the body temperature. Rocky’s little body laid there weak and lifeless.

The neighbor quickly went out and picked up Rocky and took him in to bathe him and try and remove the alcohol from his tiny body. There was bloody drool coming from his mouth. At this point the police arrive and they instructed the lady to come over and see me at the salon as he had just seen me drive up. I looked out my front door and a lady was standing cradling something wrapped in a blanket and crying. I opened my door and met Rocky for the first time. He was wet and his body was very cold and he was crying. His breathing was labored. I was terrified that he was not going to make and I knew that what ever I do in the next hour is crucial to his survival. I quickly gave him another bath to remove any remaining alcohol residue. I syringed out his tiny mouth with water to clean it and then I put him on a heating pad to try and bring his body temperature up. The next thing to do was wait for the vet to get to work so we could get him there.
I waited anxiously watching the clock and just about an hour later little Rocky raised his head and was alert. I picked him up and he cried. Afraid that I had hurt him, I put him back down and watched him try to move. It was clear that there was something wrong with his right front leg. Once I got him back in the crate, I offered him some food but he was not interested and laid back down to sleep.
Finally the vet was open and I placed the phone call. Rocky was transported shortly after that to Dr. Monteith. Once at the vet, they took x-rays and gave him a thorough exam. The blood from the mouth was caused by the trauma of being thrown out the window. His front right shoulder is broken. It could not be set due to the location of the break so it would have to heal on its own. He will be on strict crate rest for three weeks.
Once back at The Ark, the healing process began. Rocky has had a ton of visitors and has received many gifts. The gift he is most thankful for is the gift of life and for that he thanks the lady Judy who picked him up off the streets in the early morning hours that day. She saved his life!
Rocky is one very lucky little kitty. Keeping him quiet while his shoulder heals is no easy task. He is a kitten and he wants to run and play and maybe climb a few drapes along the way. Once he is healed there will be plenty of time for that and once he has a clean bill of health he will officially be put up for adoption.
Thank to everyone involved in Rocky’s rescue, you have all made a difference in his life and for that you should be very proud.
Thank you for your continued support and as always thank you for reading our column.
