FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — Sixteen high school girls’ basketball teams will gather July 24 and 25 for the 10th annual Pepsi Bottling Company “County” Basketball Shootout.
The field hasn’t been determined, but teams from Caribou, Calais, Central Aroostook of Mars Hill, Fort Kent, Madawaska, Washburn, Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook, Hodgdon, Shead of Eastport, Easton, Limestone, Machias, Carleton North of Woodstock, Schenck of East Millinocket, Penobscot Valley of Howland and Stearns of Millinocket have participated in the past along with the host Fort Fairfield Tigers. Larry Gardner, tourney director and coach of the Fort Fairfield squad, said some new teams could be added to this year’s event.
Each team will play a minimum of four and a maximum of six games, with playoffs occurring to determine a champion.
“We have had huge crowds in the past as it gives fans an early look at next season’s top teams,” Gardner said.
Games will be played at both the Fort Fairfield High School gymn and the community center beginning at noon July 24. The cost is $5, which is good for admission to all games on both days.
