HODGDON – H. Douglas Sloat, 85, died surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 12, 2015 in Houlton. He was born March 17, 1930, in Hodgdon, the son of Ralph P. and Ethel B. (Turney) Sloat.
Doug was a hard-working farmer who lived and left us the legacy of family values, integrity, faith and hard work. He will be missed by many close neighbors, friends and family.
Doug was predeceased by his mother and father, and his sister, Lena Qunion. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marion L. (Estabrook) Sloat of Hodgdon. He is also survived by five children, Arthur and his wife, Mimi, Carol Smith and her husband, David, Richard and his wife, Jean, Cathy Poland and her husband, Gary, Andrew and his wife, Patti; his sister, Barbara A. Rowe of Middlefield, CT; his sister-in-law, Helen (Estabrook) McKay of Woodstock, NB, Canada; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was loved and adored by 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Friends called at the Dunn Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Randall Burns officiating. A reception will follow the service at the Military Street Baptist Church. Interment will be in the East Hodgdon Cemetery.
