Island Falls Summerfest features busy slate of events

    ISLAND FALLS, Maine — The Island Falls Summerfest will be held this Friday, July 24, through Sunday, Aug. 2 and promises “Fun in the Sun” for everyone. A schedule of events is as follows.

Friday, July 24
9 a.m.: SACS fifth-grade bake sale and car wash at Island Falls Fire Department.

11 a.m.: Katahdin Federal Credit Union Member Appreciation Day, with giveaways and refreshments.
1 p.m.: 50th anniversary golf scramble at VaJoWa Golf Course, $20 per person – 18 holes. Make your own team. Shotgun start. Net and gross prizes.
5:30 p.m.: Green Valley Association vs. CLA softball game. Concession proceeds go towards GVA Special Olympics Fund. Donations accepted. For more information, call Jennifer or Dianne at 463-2156.
7:45-8 p.m.: On the pond lighted boat parade at Birch Point area. Led by Sheriff Darrell Crandall. $25 gift certificate for best lit. Weather permitting.
9 p.m.: Fireworks at VaJoWa Golf Course.
9:30 p.m.: The Maine Slice Dance, $3 per person, ages 21 and up.

Saturday, July 25
9 am-12 p.m.: Trash and treasure sale at the Whittier Congregational Church.
9 a.m.: Kayak and Canoe race at Birch Point. Rules review at 9:45, register by that time. $10 per person, proceeds go to SACS Dollars for Scholars. For more information, call 463-2515.
12:30-5:30 p.m.: Free Family and Kids fun day at Island Falls Municipal Building, sponsored by Brooks Equipment. There will be G-Force laser tag, bounce house, gaga ball, and a water slide. Hot dogs and drinks; all proceeds go to Island Falls playground funds.
7-9 p.m.: John Wayne Hall, specializing in original songs, country classics, modern country and rock variety. Will be held at Island Falls Municipal Building.

Sunday, July 26
7-10 a.m.: Island Falls Free Wheeler Club all you can eat breakfast, to be held at Island Falls VFW. $7 for adults, $5 ages 12 and under.
3 p.m.: Come join us to see the cute little ones in the pageant, ages birth to 18. $4 for adults, $2 for kids and students.

Monday, July 27
11 a.m.: Ice cream, face painting and refreshments at Reflection Salon.
6 p.m.: Pet show, in loving memory of Jarrica Rose Emery. All are welcome. ALL PETS MUST BE ON LEASH. Prizes will be awarded. To preregister, call Ruth at 463-2263, or register the day of the show between 5:15 and 5:45 at Island Falls Municipal Building.

Tuesday, July 28
10 a.m.-3p.m.: Bridge at Island Falls Municipal Building. All are welcome.
11 a.m.: Teddy bear picnic at Katahdin Public Library on Library Street with stories, crafts and lunch.
6:30 p.m.: Brenda and Doug Rodgerson’s Gospel Harmonica show. Donations accepted at door.
8 p.m.: Zumba Glow Party at Island Falls Municipal Building. Donations accepted for SACS fifth-grade Boston trip.

Wednesday, July 29
6-9 p.m.: Country music band, Wagon Wheel and Friends at Municipal Building. Donations accepted for the rec. department. Come enjoy music with friends.
6:30 p.m.: Island Falls Fire Dept. vs. Oakfield Fire Dept. softball game. Concessions available.

Thursday, July 30
6 p.m.: Kiddie Parade. Decorate your bike, doll stroller, trike, wagon, etc. Lineup at Bishop’s Market; ends at Island Falls Municipal Building. Prizes will be awarded.
7 p.m.: Graves’ Institute of Self Defense open house at Island Falls Municipal Building. Come see what it’s all about. Free admission; sponsored by Island Falls Rec and Graves’.

Friday, July 31
9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Katahdin Trust Company will be passing out trail mix treats.
6:30 p.m.: Talent show at Island Falls Municipal Building. To preregister, call by July 27 to be added to event brochure. Admission: $4 adults, $2 students/children.
9 p.m.: Moonlight golf, $20 per member, $30 per nonmember. Includes one golf cart and one glow ball. Pre-register by 8:30. Call 463-2128 for more information.

Saturday, August 1
7-10 a.m.: All you can eat breakfast held by Masonic Lodge 206 at Library Street in Island Falls. Cost $7 adults, $4 kids 10 and under.
8:45 a.m.: The 23rd annual 5K run, 4K walk and pie auction. Kids’ fun run begins at 8:45. T-Shirts given to first 100 in PIE RUN. Proceeds go to Agape Food Pantry, $10 per entry. To pre-register or for more information, email pjwhswcsw@gmail.com.
9 a.m. until gone: St. Agnes sodality food sale at Jerry’s Thriftway.
3 p.m.: His Resting Arms (formerly the Emma V. Milliken Memorial Hospital) will be opening doors to the Milliken house and the Swett house to the first residents. Tour facilities to hear about new ministry opening in Island Falls.
3:30 p.m.: Kids games on the ball field including skillet throw, softball toss, soccer kick, etc. Prizes will be awarded. Sponsored by Island Falls Rec and Bowers Funeral Home.
5-9 p.m.: Undertone Music along with a special menu at the River Cafe.
6 p.m.: Island Falls School alumni banquet. Reunion at the Island Falls Municipal Building. RSVP to Becky by July 29 at 463-2372 or email rebecca1@fairpoint.net.

Sunday, August 2
9 a.m.-3 p.m.: Shear Energy Salon and Dominique’s Sweet Treats sidewalk sale at Library Street. Salon retail items, pet items and Jamberry Nail items.
10 a.m.-12 p.m.: Island Falls Fire Department open house.
10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: VFW barbecue, $9 per plate. For more information, call Greyhawk at 365-6666 or Ted at 463-2208.
1 p.m.: Parade with theme “Fun in the Sun.” Line-up is on Merriman Road. Pre-register with parade committee members Becky Drew and Phil Faulkner at 463-2518. In-theme floats will be judged by popular vote after the parade on Municipal Grounds. First, second and third prizes in theme.
4 p.m.: Independent Wrestling Entertainment. Crash Landing, Matt Mahoney, Jroc Primer, Mikey Primer, Aaiden Andrews and many more! Cost: $5 bleacher seat, $8 ringside. Doors open at 3:30 p.m.

Submit a photo in one or all three categories with your name and phone number on the back of the photo. UNFRAMED PHOTOS ONLY. No professionals please. Bring photos to town office by July 22 at 11 a.m. Photos will be displayed at the Municipal Building throughout the week. People’s choice voting. For more information, call 463-2263.
Scavenger hunt
Search the town of Island Falls for facts, artifacts and items of trivia! Family fun prizes for first, second and third place. Complete rules and list can be picked up starting July 24 at the following locations: Jerry’s Thriftway, Katahdin Library, River Cafe and VaJoWa Golf Course.
