O’Roak, Nadine T., 91, July 14, 2015. A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 23 at 12 p.m. at the Sherman Cemetery. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home.
Our Mother, Nadine Tilley O’Roak, 91, left this life on July 14, 2015, at home with her loving family. She was born June 3, 1924, in Sherman, the daughter of Clifton and Marjorie (Cox) Tilley.
As a young child she lived with her beloved grandmother, Augusta Cox, on the Golden Ridge Farm. That time of her life counted as some of her fondest memories. In June of 1942, she graduated from Sherman High School, briefly attended Ricker College and in November of that year she married her lifelong love, Clair (Pud) O’Roak. They moved in 1948 to the farm that would be their home for the next 67 years.
Nadine was very active in civic affairs. She sat on the SAVE Board, was the first woman to serve on the FHA Board, was a long term member of the Sherman School Board, stood as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sherman Chapter, contributed tireless energy working for the Washburn Memorial Church and was a member of various local clubs and committees. She felt fortunate to have lived in Sherman her whole life surrounded by close friends, family and community members who became family to her.
Nadine is survived by her husband of 72 years, Pud; two daughters, Susan and her husband, William McAvoy, of Sherman, and Cynthia Lyon of Kennebunk; two adored grandsons, Ryan McAvoy and wife, Meghan, of Kenduskeag and Matthew Morris and wife, Alice, of Gloucester, MA; and fortunately, she lived a life long enough to include a precious great-granddaughter, Charlotte Morris.
As people who knew her will attest, she will be remembered as an energetic and engaging woman who was strongly independent. She took great pride in her personal appearance and her gigantic lawn. Mother will be remembered every day in some large or small way. Rest in peace, Nana.
Thank you to Hospice of Aroostook and the many helping hands that reached out to this family.
