Greater Houlton Christian Acadamy has announced the following teaching appointments.
“We are delighted to have these qualified individuals join our staff,” said Tom Zimmerman, interim head of school. “We are looking forward to our upcoming school year with new teachers and new programming options for our students.”
Holly Matheson
Holly Matheson has accepted the role of preK teacher. She is a recent graduate of the University of Maine at Presque Isle with a bachelor of science degree and dual certification in elementary education and special education. Matheson has been highly recommended for her character, work habits and academic abilities, while also being recognized for her community volunteerism including: current board member of the Southern Aroostook Hockey Association, Little League assistant coach, charitable fundraising and classroom volunteer at other local schools.
Matheson resides in Houlton with her husband and children and attends Littleton Full Gospel Assembly.
Rhonda Shaw
Rhonda Shaw has joined GHCA as its grades 2/3 teacher. She has taught in local schools for 22 years. Receiving her Master’s in education in 2004, her career includes teaching elementary, special education and adult education. Shaw volunteers for Vacation Bible School, as a counselor and bus driver for CEF Wilderness Day Camp in Smyrna and other area Christian summer camps, has recently became a new board member for CEF (Children’s Evangelism Fellowship) and has served on the CEF Northern Maine Committee for more than 20 years. She and her husband live in Littleton and are members of Houlton Wesleyan Church.
GHCA families are excited about the new opportunities coming into the next school year including alternative educational opportunities for its high school students. In addition to accepting applications for grades preK-12, Little Eagles Preschool is now accepting applications for children ages 2 1/2 to 3 years old.
