Tom Hawkes and a friend were visitors at my home recently, experiencing the hot temperature and humidity. While they were here, a huge branch that had fallen way down back of my house was cut up and the small branches, etc. were carried away. It was done fairly early in the a.m., about 8:30 a.m. so it wasn’t too bad.
After a quick lunch of salads and sandwiches Tom and friend departed for their homes in Glenburn, enjoying the air conditioner all the way I’m sure.
Eddie Webb, who had been visiting with Charlene Webb, has returned to his home in Winterport and I’m sure he took with him the nine quarts of mincemeat that was his share of the eighteen quarts that the two of them made while he was here.
During this heat spell I have kept an eye on my hummingbirds and their feeder to make sure it doesn’t go empty. I checked it the other day so now have to refill it and made the syrup today and it is cooling before I take it to the feeder.
There has been no sign of the ground hog so hopefully, he has moved on. I have noticed though that the skunks have been having a heyday digging holes in my lawns — some of them quite big. So, I stop the lawn mower, get off, and then walk around refilling the skunk holes, and this takes quite awhile, even though it is good exercise.
I am still swimming at Vacationland with the group of eight friends who have been coming every day now for a long time. Once in awhile someone else will arrive and join us but so far, it is just us eight. We haven’t decided on a name yet to call the group, but someday we’ll come up with a good one.
