Muriel (Giles) Walton, a former resident of the area, has recently spent a week visiting with family and friends, and that included me. While here she also did some shopping, which included taking in the Amish store in Smyrna. She has now returned to her home in Atlanta, Ga.
Mr. and Mrs Gary Webb have arrived from South Carolina to spend a few days here and for a visit with his mother, Gertrude, who now lives in Patten, and with brothers, Ronald (Junie), Roger and sister, Gail Davis, and husband, Brian. Hope the weather will improve so they can enjoy their vacation here.
Ed Wood arrived a few days ago from Wilton, N.H., to spend some time at the family camp on Upper Mattawamkeag Lake and to visit with sister-in-law, Riva. He has since returned home but will be back after Labor Day to spend more time here.
I still have my hummingbirds flying in for their supper every day and had to refill the feeder recently as it got too low.
Had a nice letter recently from a lady in Rochester, N.Y., who takes the Pioneer and tells me that she also has lots of different birds at her feeders, but no deer and no groundhogs. I wonder if she has any skunk holes in her lawn like I do that keep me busy refilling them all in.
I did have a woodpecker appear the other day, so I think I will put out some sunflower seeds soon and maybe my chickadees will return.
I still have not seen any deer, but I keep a weather eye out in case one shows up.
