Sherman Old Home Days returns this weekend

SHERMAN, Maine — The final festival of the summer kicks off Saturday in Sherman as the 2015 Sherman Old Home Days festival celebrates three fun-filled days. The following is a schedule of events planned to help the community celebrate the end of summer.

Saturday, Sept. 5

9 a.m. – Cancer Walk begins at the town bandstand.

10 a.m. – Bandstand opens with a hot dog and food sale.

11 a.m. – Auction starts in the park.

5 p.m. Sherman High School alumni banquet at the Sherman Gym. (Social hour is from 4-5 p.m.)

6-8:30 p.m. Public street dance for all ages followed by fireworks at dark.

Sunday, Sept. 6

7:30-9:30 a.m. – Breakfast at the Masonic Hall.

8 a.m. – Drop off art submissions for the Art Show at the town library.

9 a.m. – Howard Guiggey Memorial Horseshoe Tourney at the VFW. Coed softball tournament at the Sherman Gym field.

10 a.m. – Church services planned.

11 a.m. Bandstand opens with food and cotton candy.

Noon – Lobster dinner. Hospitality booth opens. Gospel music in the park.

12:30 p.m. – Food vendors featuring pizza, nachos, sausages and hamburgers open. Children’s parade begins.

1 p.m. – Free games for children and a bicycle raffle. Art show at the town library.

3:30 p.m. – Little Miss Old Home Days Pageant.

4:30 p.m. – Chicken barbecue.

7 p.m. – Variety show at the Sherman gymnasium.

Monday, Sept. 7

7:30 a.m. – Pumpkin doughnuts at the Perrin Home.

9 a.m. – Coed softball tournament continues.

10 a.m. – Parade. This year’s theme is “Good ‘Ole Days.”

10:30 a.m. – Craft fair opens at the Rec Department.

11 a.m. – All booths open and beano begins. Car Cruisin’ in the Village at Tom’s Garage. Petting Zoo opens. Quilt show at the church begins.

Noon – Demonstrations and music will be played in the park. A logging competition will all be held.

2 p.m. – Pet show begins in the park.

4 p.m. – Bean supper.

6 p.m. – Grounds ticket drawing, $150.
