ORIENT, Maine — A driver attempting to get into a photo being taken in his automobile wound up crashing his vehicle into a tree Saturday afternoon.

According to Maine State Police Sgt. Chad Fuller, Jordan Toner, 29, of Hampden was attempting to get into a photograph being taken by passengers in a 2014 Mazda CX5 he was driving when he lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a tree.
Toner and seven friends were traveling on the Deering Lake Road in Orient around 1:30 p.m. Saturday when Toner leaned over to be in a “selfie” picture with his friends, and ran off the road striking a tree, police said.
Passengers in the vehicle were: Jesse Toner, 31, of Hodgdon; Adam Toner, 35, of Bangor; Elizabeth Toner, 28, of Hampden; Katharine Ferrill, 28, of Eddington; Kyle Ferrill, 28, of Eddington; Chris Dean, 29, of Orlando, Fla.; and Meaghan Brown, 28, of Dedham.
“There were multiple injuries with the worst being to two females occupying the front passenger seat,” Fuller said. “One female sustained a fractured nose and laceration above her eye, while the other female sustained neck and possible back injuries which are still being assessed at Houlton Regional Hospital.  Neither female was wearing a seatbelt.”
Another male had a laceration on his cheek, and yet another male had a minor injury to the area around his eye, Fuller added. The individuals were transported to Houlton Regional Hospital by Calais Ambulance.
Toner was summonsed for failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle, due to being distracted. Speed was not a factor in the crash and seatbelts were worn, according to police.
Trooper Adam Bell responded to the incident.
