HOULTON, Maine — Students returned to the classroom this past week, but that does not mean the fun times of summer are over and done with.
The Houlton Salvation Army will host a “Back to School Bash” on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring a variety of food, fun and games for all area children.
Lt. Elizabeth Nicoll, who took over the Houlton branch of the Salvation Army with her husband Dominic in July, said they wanted to do something for the area children to help ease the transition back to the daily grind of classes.
A bounce house, carnival games and dunk tank are among the many activities to be offered. All of the events are free to the public. Food and drinks will also be available.
“Our event is geared toward children, but we will also have sign-ups for a new women’s group, and a youth group for ages 6 and up every Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.,” Nicoll said. “We will also have a back-to-school sale at our Thrift Store all week for people to get clothing and other items.”
