The Aroostook Retired Educators Association (AREA) will meet Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015 at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.
Registration will be at 11:00 am with a chicken dinner to be served at noon. The cost of the meal is $13.
Lunch will be followed by the program featuring guest speaker, Pat Bennett, who will discuss trusts and wills. Musical selections will be led by Dan Ladner. The business session with installation of officers will conclude the meeting.
AREA is continuing to collect canned goods and nonperishable items to be distributed to local food pantries. The association is also participating in the annual “Day of Caring.” The project for this three year cycle is the “Bulging Backpack” project, which involves filling backpacks with school supplies and donating them to an area school.
Thanks to the outstanding support of the members, this year’s backpacks have been presented to Connor Elementary School in Connor and the Dawn F. Barnes Elementary School in Caswell, both representing central Aroostook. A school or schools in the northern section will be chosen next year. Donations for both projects may be brought to the September meeting.
All members are reminded to encourage retirees to join.
