HOULTON – Kevin Hoyt Nickerson, 60, of Houlton, passed on September 9, 2015, after a hard-fought battle with ARDS. He passed peacefully at Massachusetts General Hospital with his family by his side. Kevin was born October 24, 1954 in Houlton, the first born son of Barbara (Hoyt) and the late Raymond Nickerson.
Kevin was happily retired from his career at Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, archery, golf, gardening, nature, creating his own unique brand of art, and spending time with his family and friends.
Kevin is survived by his devoted wife, Heleana; his children, Tobi Lehman and her husband, Scott, Haley Nickerson, and Ethan Nickerson, all of whom he was very proud. He is also survived by six younger siblings, sister Sharon O’Donnell, brother, Brian Nickerson and his wife, Linda, brother, Galen Nickerson and his wife, Chris, sister, Susie Crovo and her husband, Peter, sister, Karen Nickerson, and sister, Robin Green and her husband, Aaron; his in-laws, Phil and Judy Cohen, Steve and Miriam Cohen, and Alicia Cohen and Jim McCoy; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Kevin also had many great friends, too many to list, who were all family in their own right.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to Houlton Regional Hospital, Central Maine Medical Center, and Massachusetts General Hospital for all of their hard work and perseverance in caring for Kevin. Many of his providers went above and beyond and we would like to extend special thanks to them – the bonds they formed with Kevin and the family will always be remembered. Kevin would rather you celebrate his life than mourn his death. Remember his smile, his sense of humor, his creativity, his generosity, and his laid-back and happy demeanor. In his honor, tell a joke, make someone else smile, and be grateful for every day. We ask that you please consider making a donation in his name to ARDS Foundation, 3330 Dundee Road, Suite C4, Northbrook, IL 60062 – ardsusa.org, or The Arbor House, care of Central Maine Medical Center at 300 Main Street, Lewiston, ME 04240.
