ISLAND FALLS, Maine — Golfers from Hodgdon, Central Aroostook, Southern Aroostook and Fort Fairfield competed in the Aroostook County Class “C” Golf Championship Friday at the VaJoWa golf course.
Played under a scorching autumn sun, the golfers matched the hot weather with plenty of hot play on the links. Fort Fairfield won the team title with a low round of 409, followed by Hodgdon, 422; Central Aroostook, 471; and Southern Aroostook, 514.
The top two teams – Fort Fairfield and Hodgdon – earned the right to compete in the state team competition set of Oct. 10 at Natanis. It marks the seventh consecutive County championship for Fort Fairfield coach Larry Gardner.
Five individuals also also earned the right to compete at the state individual meet Oct. 17 at Natanis. To qualify as an individual, boy golfers had to shoot 90 or under, while girls had to shoot 110 or under. Representing Hodgdon at the state individual meet will be Ben Tuttle (80) and Lexi Emerson (109), while Sadie Edgecomb (101), Jon Bernard (89) and Sara Edgecomb (108) qualified from Fort Fairfield. It marks the fourth straight year that Emerson has qualified for the state individual meet.
Tuttle was the top golfer at Friday’s 18-hole event, as he fired a low score of 80, easily distancing himself from the next golfer, Bernard, who shot an 89.
Other results for Hodgdon golfers were: Emerson, 109; Justin Wilson, 113; Dana Brown, 120; and Andrew Tuttle, 130. Only the top four golfers score for the team total.
Results for Fort Fairfield golfers were: Bernard, 89; Sadie Edgecomb, 101; Sara Edgecomb, 108; and Carter Bruce, 111.
For Southern Aroostook, results were: Riley Robinson, 122; Hunter Walker, 129; Kendrick Doughty, 131; Aaliyona Wenzloff, 132; and Arianna Rigby, 139.
Results for Central Aroostook were: Shane Stackpole, 95; William Klinger, 121; Ted Wheeler, 127; and Tyson Cyr, 128.
