PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Historical Society is gearing up for its fourth annual Haunted Lantern Tours. The tours, which are held on the evenings of Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24, feature both walking and trolley tours showcasing the “slightly scary and kinda creepy true tales” of historic downtown Presque Isle just in time for Halloween.
In addition to a spooky stroll through the jail cells of the Historic Fire Station (the only time of the year these are open to the public), the one-hour tours stop at 13 historic locations around the downtown area.
Kim Smith of Presque Isle Historical Society says there are still seven re-enactor spots available – two for females and five for males. “We are looking for anyone, high school age and up, who is interested in learning a little more about local history, likes drama, and doesn’t mind speaking in front of people. Some of the parts have props and/or costumes provided.”
There are four tours each night with walking tours at 6 and 7 p.m. and trolley tours at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. For more information on participating as a re-enactor or on reserving tickets for the tours, contact Smith at the Presque Isle Historical Society, 762-1151 or pihistoricalsociety@hotmail.com.
