HOULTON, Maine – Little Eagles Preschool has announced Jillian McAfee has been hired as head teacher at the school. McAfee will be leading both the full- and half-day programs for 2 1/2 and 3-year-old students.
The goal is to offer students a combination of fun learning and enrichment activities all of which help introduce them to the joy of learning and help prepare them for pre-K, said McAfee.
“My goal is to create an enjoyable first-learning experience for my students,” she said. “And just being able to see their progress first-hand throughout the year will be the most rewarding part for me as a teacher.”
McAfee, a graduate of Hodgdon High school, is also 2012 graduate of Northern Maine Community College where she earned an associate’s degree in early childhood education. In 2015, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI).
McAfee is also a member of Military Street Baptist Church. She and her husband Luke live in Hodgdon.
“We’re excited to have Jillian here,” said Heidi Nightingale, chair of the Little Eagles Board of Directors. “She has a great heart for children and for education.”
Leading the after-school program for Little Eagles is Holly Matheson. Matheson, who is also a recent graduate of UMPI, has dual certification in elementary education and special education. She and her family live in Houlton and attend Littleton Full Gospel Assembly. During the school day, she works as a Pre-K teacher at Greater Houlton Christian Academy; she also serves as a board member for the Southern Aroostook Minor Hockey Association.
“These teachers are both a great asset to our program,” added Nightingale. “I know both parents and students will enjoy getting to know them.”
Enrollment for Little Eagles Preschool is open for students anytime after they turn 2 ½ years old; they do not have to be potty trained. Tuition rates for the full-day program are $100/week. The after-school program, which runs until 5:30 p.m., is just $3 an hour.
