PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Aroostook County Action Program, Inc. will be administering the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) again this year.
LIHEAP provides financial assistance to eligible low-income households to offset the high cost of home heating.
“Households who received a LIHEAP benefit last year should have received an appointment letter in the mail,” explains Susan Deschene, senior manager, ACAP Community Services.
Deschene said heads of households who did not receive LIHEAP last year, or have not received an appointment card, may check with ACAP for appointment availability. Arrangements may also be made in certain circumstances for homebound individuals to have a home visit by April 30, 2016, she added.
Due to the high volume of telephone calls regarding LIHEAP funds, ACAP phone lines may be busy or unanswered. “We ask for the public’s patience if we are tending to other calls,” said Deschene.
At this time benefit amounts are unknown and funds are not expected to become available until late fall 2015. Anyone who would like to schedule an appointment or obtain additional information about LIHEAP may call ACAP Community Services directly at 1-800-585-3053 or 768-3053.
