BELFAST, Maine — Saturday’s regional cross country championship yielded the best results of the season thus far for County runners as three Shires and three Eagles qualified for States.

Greater Houlton Christian Academy had a solid showing at the event as the Eagle boys placed seventh in the team competition. GHCA did not have enough girls to score as a team, while Houlton did not field enough runners in either the boys or girls races to compete as a team.

“Several runners hit their season and career personal bests and three of our runners qualified for the state championship to be held this coming Saturday at Twin Brook Recreation in Cumberland,” said Chris Rines, Houlton cross-country coach. “It was a great day for racing at the Belfast course with decent temperature and hardly any wind to worry about.”

Shires Isaiah Brown, Rylee Warman and Olivia Winslow all qualified for States with their individual efforts at Saturday’s meet. For GHCA, Wesley Ganglfinger, Cole Winslow and Grace Graham qualified for States. The top 30 individuals in both the boys and girls races qualified for the state competition.

Brown finished fifth, completing the course in 17 minutes, 16.67 seconds (a career personal best). Adam Casillas finished 32nd at 19:07.54 (a career personal best) and Tim Glatter finished 79th at 23:32.99 (a career personal best).

For GHCA, Ganglfinger finished 18th (18:22.70); Winslow was 28th (18:55.55); Joshua Supper was 54th (20:49.76); Isaac Potter, 69th (22:07.69); and Alex Walker, 77th (23:22.75).

In the girls race, Warman finished 11th with a time of 21:08.99 (a season best); Winslow placed 20th at 22:09.82 (a personal best); Victoria Holmes was 46th at 25:30.73 (a personal best); and Kate Newman finished 71st at 30:53.46 (a personal best).

Graham was the lone Eagle girls runner at the meet. She finished 10th with a time of 20:46.57.
