Students have just completed their first trimester of the school year. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Nov. 29 and 30. We hope all parents and guardians will take this opportunity to visit their student’s teachers and find out more about a day in the life of a student at Mill Pond.
Our food drive is going strong! We have filled one potato barrel with just a couple of donations and have collected over $200 in cash to aid in the purchase of turkeys or hams for needy families in our area. This project is being conducted by the Middle School Student Council and the Civil Rights Team together. The plan is to continue at least for the month of November and into December to help boost the inventory of St. Mary’s food bank. Many thanks to those who have attended our middle school basketball games and made cash contributions to our drive effort.
As the cold weather is knocking on our Maine doorsteps, we would like to remind parents to send students with warm jackets, hats, and mittens or gloves. If you have extra of any of these items, our school nurse is always happy to take them for those students who forget or don’t have what they need for a really chilly day.
Students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 participated in a “Mix It Up at Lunch Day” on Oct. 27 promoted and led by the Middle School Civil Rights Team. Mix It Up Day promotes tolerance and acceptance of others by offering students the opportunity to make a new friend at lunch. Thousands of students across the nation stay home from school each day because of bullying issues at school. As students entered the cafeteria to eat lunch they were randomly assigned to sit at tables. Civil Rights Team members sat with the younger students and used icebreaker activities to promote conversations. Lots of positive feedback was received from the students in Grades 3-5.
The next Family Reading Night is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Mill Pond Library. A story, craft, and snack will be shared. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
