The Houlton Pioneer Times will be publishing its annual basketball supplement in the Dec. 16, 2015 issue, profiling Houlton, Hodgdon, Southern Aroostook, Katahdin and East Grand teams.
Hodgdon’s girls team opens its season Friday hosting Washburn at 7 p.m. Coach Taylor-Jo Quint returns for her second season with the Hawks. The Hodgdon boys, under the tutelage of Rob Smith, will have to wait until Tuesday, Dec. 8, to play their first game at home versus Washburn.
The Southern Aroostook girls, coached by Cliff Urquhart, host Central Aroostook, 7 p.m. Friday, while the boys team, coached by Bill McAvoy, travels to the Panther Palace in Mars Hill for a 7 p.m. contest.
The Katahdin girls, under the direction of Jona Fitzpatrick, host Penobscot Valley 5 p.m. Friday evening, while the boys team, led by new coach Harry Doughty, travel to the Howlers’ home court on Saturday for a 5 p.m. contest.
The East Grand girls, under the direction of coach Mike Carlos, and boys squad coached by Steve Gray will make the trek down Route 1 to face Woodland (Baileyville). The girls take the court at 5 p.m. followed by the boys at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the Houlton boys and girls teams open their seasons with road games at Orono. The boys, with new head coach Dillon Kingsbury, play at 3 p.m., followed by the girls, with coach Shawn Graham, at 4:30 p.m.
