Tractor-trailer crashes in Merrill

MERRILL, Maine — A Millinocket man on Thursday afternoon lost control of the tractor-trailer he was driving around a bend on snow-covered Route 212, and the rig ended up on its side in a ditch.

The driver, Travis Hafford, 35, was not injured when the 2006 Western Star logging truck, which was headed east, slid off the roadway and rolled over into the ditch at about 2:30 p.m., according to Maine State Police Sgt. Chad Fuller.

In a written statement issued Friday afternoon, Fuller said that since it was snowing and getting dark on Thursday, the unloaded tractor-trailer was left in the ditch overnight. When conditions were safer on Friday, the rig was pulled out and towed away by Westerdahl’s Towing. Route 212 was shut down for a short time.

Hafford was wearing a seatbelt, according to Fuller.
