HODGDON, Maine — Two men escaped injury Monday but some ATV’s sustained significant damage after an accident on U.S. Route 1 in Hodgdon.

Aroostook County Sheriff Darrell Crandall said in a written statement Monday evening that the accident took place just after 11:30 a.m. when Norman Estabrook, 21, of Houlton, was driving his 2006 Dodge Caravan north toward Houlton.

According to the Sheriff, Ronald Dupont, 47, of Linneus, was traveling in the opposite decision on U.S. Route 1 and was turning into Tidd’s Sport Shop. He was driving a 1998 Saturn.

Estabrook’s vehicle struck the passenger’s side of Dupont’s vehicle, pushing both vehicles into the driveway of Tidd’s Sport Shop.

The vehicles then hit a 2014 Can Am ATV and a 2011 Can Am ATV, Crandall said. Both men were wearing their seatbelts and no one was injured. It is believed both of the automobiles are a total loss and both ATVs also sustained serious damage.

Freezing rain and snow was in the area at the time, and the roads were snow and ice covered.

Traveling too fast for road conditions and driver inattention were the primary factors in the accident, the sheriff said Monday.
