Blackhawks upend PI, 4-2

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton-Hodgdon-Southern Aroostook-Katahdin Blackhawks varsity hockey squad (1-2) beat visiting Presque Isle 4-2 last Thursday evening at the Millar Civic Center for their first win of the year.

The Blackhawks followed up that game with 6-1 home loss to Winslow Saturday and an 8-1 loss to Orono Monday.

Against Presque Isle, Billy Phillips and AJ Henderson each scored second-half goals, while Josh Malone added two third-period goals for the Blackhawks. Malone and Abe Lorom also had assists.

For Presque Isle, Thomas Patenaude and Denny Young each scored a goal, while Alex Brewer had an assist.

Against Winslow Saturday, Malone tallied the lone goal for the Blackhawks with a second period score off an assist from Abe Lorom.

Scoring goals for Winslow were: Tommy Tibbetts, Ben Frost, Logan Denis, Jacob Houghton, Nick West and Jacob Trask. Notching assists were Denis, three; David Selwood, two; and one each for Jacob Grenier, Frost, Jimmy Fowler and Tibbets.

Winslow held a 36-16 edge in shots.

On the road at the Alfond Arena in Orono, Jacob Dubay racked up four goals and an assist to power the Orono to victory. Matt Fowler scored twice and Austin Sheehan and Trent Lick each netted a goal. Lucas Shorette provied three assists while Cam Tower, Chris Hoxie and Ben Allen-Rahill had two apiece. Chase Albert made 22 saves on 23 shots.

Henderson scored off a Malone assist for Houlton-Hodgdon-Southern Aroostook-Katahdin. Nate Lilly and Ian Neureuther combined for 43 saves.
