ISLAND FALLS — Herschel R. Fogg, 91, passed away December 29, 2015 in Millinocket. He was born April 25, 1924 in Crystal, the son of Jerome and Alice (Tucker) Fogg. He attended Crystal Grammar School. He worked on farms, in the woods and in mills. He retired from Island Falls Cedar Mill at age 65 then returned to work for Maine Trellis Company, retiring at age 83. Herschel was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Island Falls Fire Department for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Muriel (Hosford) Fogg of Island Falls; two daughters: Sandra MacArthur & husband, Dwayne, of Madison, Cynthia Gardner and husband, Robert, of Rockland; four grandchildren; Scot MacArthur and his wife, Erin of Hampden, Robert H. Gardner and Amanda and Ashley Gardner all of Rockland; two great-grandchildren: Mason and Ella MacArthur of Hampden; a sister: Freda Hunnewell of Auburn; a brother: Leon of Portland; a special cousin, Darlene Paytakhan and husband, Cris of CA; special family: Pearle and Jamie Main and Family and Richard & Emily Hosford; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins . He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers: Colby, Jason, Milton and Philip and four sisters: Hilda, Marjorie, Isabelle and Geneva. We would like to thank two special caregivers, Rachel Robinson and Elaine Pipes for their special care of Herschel. We also want to thank Millinocket Regional Hospital, all of their staff and doctors for the excellent care Herschel received until his death.
Services were held Saturday, Jan. 2 at the Island Falls Baptist Church with Pastor Ben Greene officiating. There will be a spring interment at Island Falls Cemetery.
