HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton girls basketball team earned yet another key victory Saturday, dispatching visiting Ellsworth, 56-39, in a well-played game.

“I thought we got off to a great start, had a good first half,” Houlton coach Shawn Graham said. “Our press was effective on the defensive end.”

Houlton sophomore Kolleen Bouchard looked unstoppable at times as she poured in 20 points in the first half, many of which came from slashing shots to the rim. Bouchard finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds.

Senior Natalie Hill added 16 points and had five rebounds, five assists, and five steals, while sophomore Aspen Flewelling chipped in 10 points for the Shiretowners.

For Ellsworth, Madison Card scored 15 points, while Samantha Mason added nine points and Kate Whitney had eight.

Graham said fatigue may have played a bigger role in the second half for his squad due to the physical style of play deployed by Ellsworth.

“Overall, this was a great win against a top five team,” Graham said. “(It should be) big points for us as Ellsworth should win 12-13 games.”
