​ HOULTON — Juanita Mae (Addington) McKissick, 93, passed away January 9th, 2016 in Houlton. Juanita was born January 4th, 1923 in Hodgdon, ME, the daughter of the late Elizabeth Lewis and Walter Addington. Juanita lived in Maine until 1955 when she and her husband, Carey, moved to Middleboro, Massachusetts and raised a family. In 1980, Juanita and Carey returned to Orient, Maine to retire. After the loss of her husband, she lived in Houlton and Littleton, ME , where she made many friends. When she lived in Middleboro she was a member of the Fraternal Order of​ Eagles of Middleboro, MA, and was awarded Mother of the Year. She also belonged to a woman’s bowling team. Juanita’s most important thing in her life was her family.

She loved spending time with her family, going out to eat, camping, spending time at Deering Lake, she loved country music and enjoyed going out dancing. She liked to feed the birds and was always excited to see the first hummingbird in the spring. She also enjoyed reading and doing word puzzles. One of her accomplishments in life was obtaining her driver’s license for the first time at the age of 70. Juanita is going to be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Juanita was survived by her son, Timothy McKissick and his wife, Sherrie, of Orient, ME; three daughters: Gloria Merrill and husband, Howard, of Lake City, FL, Marie Vincent and husband, Lee, of Littleton, ME, Vickie Dunham and her husband, Michael, of Houlton, ME; her sister, Jenny Goodine of Middleboro, MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Louie Merrill, Howard Merrill, Cheryl Sawyer, Kayla Schools, Jamie Higgins, Christopher McKissick; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; three special sisters-in-law: Dolly, Kay and Polly; several nieces, nephews and her extended family that took care of her at Gardiner Health Care Facility. Juanita was predeceased by her husband, Carey; sisters, Pauline Crouse and Dorothy Kitchen; brothers: Raymond Lewis and Harold Addington; granddaughter, Judy Merrill and great-great- grandson, Jesse Ryan.

There will be a private funeral service and a social gathering for family and friends in memory of Juanita at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16th, 2016 at the Linneus Snow Club in Linneus, Maine.
