HOULTON — Joseph “Tommy” Levasseur, 84, passed away Jan. 13, 2016 at a local health care facility. He was born Feb. 11, 1931 at St. Leonard, NB, Canada, the son of Alfred and Geneva (Haggerty) Levasseur.
Joseph grew up in the St. Leonard and came to Houlton at an early age. Joseph served in the US Army. He drove taxi, worked at the Houlton Water Company and was a sergeant for the Houlton Police Dept. Joseph worked for many years at Sampsons then Hannaford into his seventies. He married Joyce Barrow, later was divorced, and then was married to Verda (Campbell) Brown until her passing in 1996. During his time as a police officer, Joseph was known to bring home those who were in unfortunate situations so they could have a safe place to stay for the night (Or the year). Family was number one and he was a loving and caring individual.
Joseph is survived by five children, Joseph Levasseur, Jr. and his wife, Juliana of Windsor Locks, CT, Katherine Dubois and Cynthia Paul both of Bangor, Terrence and Douglas Brown both of Rochester, NY area; ten grandchildren, thirteen great- grandchildren; his sister, Edna Levasseur of St. Basile, NB, Canada; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wives, he was predeceased by his son, Dean “Skip” Brown, two sisters, Mary and Lillian, and two brothers, Stephen and Hartley Crane.
