Another quiet week here and guess everyone is waiting for the winter to let up so that they can get up and go.
Did get a note from my sister, who lives in Concord, N.H., and she informed me that where she lives there have been all sorts of activities going on, especially since all the candidates running for president have been in New Hampshire and knocking on doors, telephoning and whatever else these candidates do.
Driving to a store, doctor’s appointment or whatever has been a nightmare as far as traffic is concerned, but then, it’s always that way in a big city.
Up north here we are mostly concerned about running into a moose or a deer on I-95 or waiting for the next snowstorm and wondering how much snow Mother Nature will dump on us.
This week it is the approaching cold snap that will hit us, so I am prepared with lots of old bread and apples to give to the deer when they arrive, usually after it gets dark and I can’t see them, but there are lots of tracks in the new snow now so they are all out there.
The other day I watched about eight of them parading across my backyard in single file from the woods and out toward Sam’s house, across from me, where Sam’s grandson, Jaime, and wife, Stephanie, sometimes feed the deer and they have a big spotlight that they use during the evening to see the deer if, and when, they should appear.
I have lots and lots of small birds at my feeders and every one of them really goes for the peanut butter and lard mixture that I put on my tree limbs. The big birds, woodpeckers, blue jays and cardinals like it, too, so I am hard put sometimes to keep enough mixed up for them all.
The other day there were three gray squirrels having a to-do all around my cedar tree, chasing each other as they tried to get access to the feeders. They had a great time running here and there and finally up the birch tree to sit and sulk awhile before going at it again. So there is a bit of activity, at least, in my dooryard.
