Will perform in McDonald’s all-star competition

AUBURN, Maine — The Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) and organizers of the 2016 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games recently announced the all-star teams, all-academic selections, regional foul shooting champions and semi-finalists for the Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball awards.

Players representing more than 150 high schools from across the state have been honored with selection to the all-star teams. The all-stars were selected based upon ballot returns in a statewide high school basketball coaches’ vote conducted by the MABC in January.

“Since 1988, the local Owner/Operators of Maine’s McDonald’s restaurants have been committed to recognizing student athletes across the state with this hallmark sporting event,” said Rich Hogan, owner/operator of McDonald’s restaurants in Maine. “We salute the Maine McDonald’s All-Star Team players for their dedication to academic and athletic excellence, sportsmanship and team spirit.”

Aroostook County players participating include Katie Condon and Natalie Hill, both of Houlton, Class AA/A/B girls’ North team; Kayla Giberson of Fort Fairfield, Class C/D girls’ North team; Larry Gardner of Fort Fairfield and Cliff Urquhart of Southern Aroostook, Class C/D girls’ North team coaches; Donovan Savage of Caribou, Class AA/A/B boys’ North team, North Region foul shooting champion, Mr. Maine Basketball Semi-Finalist and All-State Academic Team; Ryan Chasse and Brandon Theriault, both of Fort Kent; and Jarrett Olson and Noah Caron, both of Washburn, Class C/D boys’ North team; and Emily Lagerstrom of Presque Isle, North Region foul shooting champion.

This year’s Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games are scheduled for Saturday, March 12, at Newman Gymnasium on the campus of Husson University in Bangor. The game-day program will feature head-to-head competition between top players in the state in North vs. South basketball action.

The schedule for the March 12 event follows:

8:30-9 a.m., state foul shooting championship; 9:15-10:30 a.m., girls AA/A/B game; 10:45 a.m.-noon, boys AA/A/B game; noon-12:15 p.m., MABC and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine Presentations; 12:15-12:30 p.m., three-point shooting competition; 12:30-12:45 p.m., slam dunk competition; 1-2:15 p.m., boys C/D game; and 2:30-3:45 p.m., girls C/D game.

Game day tickets may be purchased at the door on Saturday, March 12 and are good for all four games. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and children age 12 and under. More information about the event is available at mainemcdonaldsbasketball.org.

All-Star players and coaches, members of the All-State Academic teams, Regional Foul Shooting Champions, Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game Award and Team of the Year recipients, the MABC Contributor Award honoree and Mr. and Miss Basketball will be honored at an awards banquet on Friday, March 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m. the Anah Shrine Hall in Bangor.

The 2016 All-Star Games mark McDonald’s 28th consecutive year as lead sponsor of this event. Net proceeds from the Games benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine.

Last year’s All-Star Weekend raised more than $32,000.00 for the Charities. Since its founding in 1998, RMHC of Maine has granted more than $3 million to more than 250 non-profit organizations that positively impact the health and well-being of children and families in Maine and eastern New Hampshire.
