Editor’s Note: The following article is a synopsis written by staff members and volunteers of the Cary Memorial Library in Houlton highlighting one of the suggested reading books, as determined by the staff.
“Molly the Pony” is a true story by Pam Kaster. With actual photographs on colored pages of exceptional material, the story comes alive with Hurricane Katrina. In the destruction Molly is abandoned in an old leaky barn with a little water and some hay.
Finally adopted, she recovers well until an angry dog bites her front leg. Well, you know what usually happens to animals who break legs…. But Molly again has the good luck to have vets who care deeply and who devise a way to make her a new foot and leg. With a surprise hoof which will delight children.
In the story Molly now visits children in hospitals and older friends in retirement homes- that has become her purpose and mission.
This book and many other fine stories were generously donated during Christmas by the community for the Children’s section of Cary Library.
