Council of Catholic Women meet

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met in the Parish Center on March 7

for their monthly meeting. President Sue Hardy called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. There were 12 members present.

Following the opening prayers, the group enjoyed a luncheon provided by the March committee. Following the luncheon, President Sue Hardy conducted the business meeting. Recording Secretary Tammy Blanchette read the minutes from the February meeting. Treasurer, Mary Grant gave the treasurer’s report. Corresponding Secretary Alta Reardon, read the correspondence.

The updated Council booklets were available thanks to Lynette Dobbs. The Bylaws Committee will be meeting soon to update the council bylaws.

In April, the group will have the baby shower for the Pregnancy Care Center. It will be open to

all members of the parish. The items will be collected for the entire month of April. Sue Hardy

will mail the lip balm that was collected for the troops.

A discussion of the “stamp collecting” project was held. Alta Reardon will contact the group involved to see if they are still accepting stamps.

Janet Barker gave a report of the St. Patrick’s Bazaar planning committee. Council purchased a

girl’s 20-inch bike for the raffle.

The 5th Annual Maine Catholic Women’s Conference will be held on April 9 in Auburn. The group voted to give a gift certificate to a family in need who recently moved to the area. They also voted to have cheese and crackers and desserts and punch and coffee for the next two months instead of a luncheon.

Sue Hardy gave a summary of the Parish Council meeting. The group collected prayer requests and a prayer was said. Birthdays and anniversaries were noted and the meeting adjourned.

The next meeting will be held on April 4 at 6 p.m. in the Parish Center. All Catholic ladies are invited to attend.
