Mariah Lane
DYER BROOK, Maine — Jonathan Porter, Principal at Southern Aroostook High School announced Tuesday that Mariah Lane of Oakfield, a senior at Southern Aroostook High School, has been selected to receive the 2016 Principal’s Award.
The award sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
“Throughout her years here at Southern Aroostook High School, Mariah has distinguished herself in the classroom and as a leader in the school and the community.” Porter noted in making the award. “She has been very active in many school and community related activities. Her character and commitment to excellence has served as a model to her classmates. She very much deserves this recognition.”
Lane is involved in a variety of school and community activities. She is a member of the National Honor Society, has participated in student council, and currently serves as Senior Class President. Lane also participates in yearbook, Dollars for Scholars, and has managed the varsity baseball team. She also represented Southern Aroostook High School at Dirigo Girls State.
Lane is the daughter of Torry and Hilary Lane.
Lane, Porter, and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center on Saturday, April 2, at 12:30 p.m. The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association. An additional five $1,000 scholarships will be presented through the efforts of the MPA Scholarship Golf Tournament.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
