Tom Zimmerman
HOULTON, Maine — The Greater Houlton Christian Academy Board of Directors announced Monday that Tom Zimmerman has been named Head of School.
“Last summer, Mr. Zimmerman willingly stepped in as the Interim Head of School,” explained Matt Nightingale, board chairman. “We were grateful to him for fulfilling the administrative duties needed, and allowing the board of directors the time to determine what skills and abilities we required in our next leader. After observing the many successes over this last year, we believe Mr. Zimmerman is the right leader for this time in our history.”
In addition to fulfilling his administrative duties, Zimmerman will continue to teach a limited number of classes at the junior high and high school level.
He received his bachelor’s degree in wildlife science from the University of Maine and a bachelor’s degree in education from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. The board of directors based their decision on a number of factors including over 25 years of teaching combined with many years of experience as GHCA’s assistant head of school; his strong efforts in making both new and long established families feel welcome; his emphasis on curriculum development and continuing education for staff; and his overall vision for the future of GHCA.
“I am humbled,” Zimmerman said. “It is an honor and privilege to serve the Christian community and the students and parents of Greater Houlton Christian Academy in this capacity.”
Greater Houlton Christian Academy has provided a Christian education to students from Aroostook County, Maine, New Brunswick, Canada and even international students for 32 years. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
GHCA is currently accepting applications for preK-12th grade students for the 2016-17 school year. Also, applications are accepted year round for Little Eagles Preschool based at Greater Houlton Christian Academy.
