Scholar-athletes in Aroostook County honored at annual banquet

CARIBOU, Maine — The Aroostook League’s athletic administrators held their annual Scholarship Banquet March 14, 2016 at Caribou High School.

The guest speaker was Tracy Guerrette, a 1998 graduate of Wisdom High School who went on to attend the University of Maine and played basketball for the Black Bears. She graduated in 2003 and received her teaching certification from UM-Fort Kent, coached basketball at both UMPI and UM-Orono and is currently the director of Faith Formation with St. Paul The Apostle Parish in Bangor.

A senior boy and girl from each of the Aroostook League schools had an opportunity to be recognized for their leadership, scholarship and athletic accomplishments.

Girls recognized were Caitlin Paradis, Ashland; Maria Espinosa, Caribou; Victoria Brewer, Central Aroostook; Kimberly Stoddard, East Grant; Emma Bonner, Easton; Sarah Watt, Fort Fairfield; Lea Freeman, Fort Kent; Anna Neher, Hodgdon; Natalie Hill, Houlton; Molly Cunningham, Katahdin; Jackie Peers, LCS/MSSM; Aspen Cote, Madawaska; Michelle Cawley, Presque Isle; Lily Leavitt, Southern Aroostook; Alexis Ouellette, Van Buren; Laina Mette, Washburn; and Melanie Bellefleur, Wisdom.

Boys honored were Jarrett Beaulier, Ashland; Michael Hunter, Caribou; Nick Dominique, Central Aroostook; Logan Halvorson, Easton; Joshua Ricker, Fort Fairfield; Bailey Beaulieu, Fort Kent; Aaron Sewell, Houlton; Tyson Porter, Katahdin; Gordon McCulloh, LCS/MSSM; Jake Hebert, Madawaska; Joshua Perrin, Southern Aroostook; Kaleb Cormier, Van Buren; Noah Caron, Washburn; and Garrett Watt, Wisdom.

Ten names, five girls and five boys, were drawn randomly for the chance to win a $400 scholarship. The winners were Stoddard, Mette, Sarah Watt, Espinosa, Cunningham, McCulloh, Dominique, Garrett Watt, Porter and Halvorson.
