A local organization specializing in fitness activities for youth and adults announces events designed to raise awareness and encourage more area residents to become active in northern Maine in the spring, summer and fall.
The Community Wellness Series was officially launched earlier this month by CompetitorME, with its signature event less than two months away.
Municipalities, business and non-profit groups are looking to draw more attention to numerous run, walk and other such events that have grown in both number and in their successful attraction of participants from downstate, out-of-state, and neighboring Canadian provinces in recent years. CompetitorME hopes to encourage more locals to take advantage of the many opportunities to engage in healthy physical activity in their own back yard.
CompetitorME is an Aroostook County-based event management services organization that specializes in event electronic timing, plus directing running and triathlon events throughout Maine and New Hampshire. Community Wellness Series events, and those of other partners, can be found at www.competitorme.com or at CompetitorME on Facebook.
“The Community Wellness Series is the catalyst for community wellness events that take place here after the snow melts and (hopefully) before it begins to pile up again,” said CompetitorME owner and director Jonathan Kelley. “By promoting this series of events hosted in The County, we see an opportunity to advance the economic development of the region by attracting more visitors to take part.
“More importantly, by raising awareness of the many such events available to both youth and adults right here, we hope to encourage greater participation and help address some of the community health challenges that we face,” he said.
In addition to engaging adults and children who will benefit from the events, and the potential for greater economic development benefit to the region, several other groups, including C.A.N.C.E.R., our nation’s fallen, active duty, and veterans; and local first responders will be assisted through the initiative. Several of the events that are part of the Community Wellness Series are fundraisers, with fees from participant registration benefitting a non-profit organization.
The following is the list of the Community Wellness Series events: Run for HEROES in Presque Isle May 21, 2016, Competitor ME Challenge June 26, Remember the Responder Aug. 21 and Sock It To CANCER on Sept. 10.
