HOULTON — A Sherman man has been convicted of unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs following a jury trial in Houlton Superior Court.
Colen McNally, 50, who had been indicted on the charge in October 2015, was convicted on March 24 in a trial presided over by Justice E. Allen Hunter.
McNally remains free on bail while awaiting sentencing, which is likely to happen in April, Aroostook County Assistant District Attorney Kurt Kafferlin said Friday.
The case was investigated by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency with Special Agent Gary McGuire as the lead investigator. Kafferlin said that agents used a cooperating individual who purchased five oxycodone pills from McNally for $275 at his home.
“The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency continues to do an excellent job in bringing strong cases for prosecution against defendants who are significant participants in the illegal drug trade,” said Kafferlin.
“Multiple law enforcement agencies in Aroostook County continue to support the work of MDEA by assigning law enforcement officers to serve there. The Houlton Police Department continues to support the work of MDEA by having Special Agent McGuire assigned there.”
Attorney Michele D.L. Kenney of Houlton represented McNally.
Also assisting in this case were agents assigned from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Border Patrol.
