Goalkeeper

It all comes down to you. You’re the last ditch effort, making one final attempt. You could be the hero or the villain.

Your fate is determined in one three-second action. Thousands of dives and punts lead up to this moment. In such a skilled game today, this is a position only to be filled by a magnanimous person.

It’s a lose-lose situation with few small rewards. If you let the ball by, you lose; it’s all your fault, yet, if you win, you had no part in the victory. There are only small rewards, after coming up with a big save.

You train, both constantly and gruesomely, just for these few seconds of glory. You have to put everything you’ve got into each save, and have perfect form and timing for it to be perfect.

Being a goalkeeper is demanding, and I am honored to wear the gloves.
