PRESQUE ISLE — The United Way of Aroostook has announced that its annual campaign is getting some help from three local restaurants, thanks to a special fund-raising campaign.
Pizza Hut restaurants in Presque Isle, Caribou and Houlton have joined counterparts from around the state for a Dollar Drive to support local United Way entities and help numerous charitable efforts throughout their communities.
“Here in Aroostook County we are very lucky to have three Pizza Huts that have all agreed to support the United Way of Aroostook,” said UWA Executive Director Sherry Locke. “We are hoping it not only brings a lot of dollars to the United Way, but also some awareness about what we do at the local level.”
Locke explained that customers can support the United Way by purchasing a Dollar Drive card at one of the restaurants. The cards, selling at $1 each, can be personalized with their name or any message. The eateries will display the cards throughout the month of April, and at the end of the campaign will present the United Way of Aroostook with a check for the money raised.
“The campaign is very simple and in the two weeks it has been running seems very successful,” Locke noted. “The management and employees have been so friendly and excited about the fundraiser, which has really made it fun for the customers.”
She said UWA staff and the board of directors are happy to be partnering with the restaurant throughout The County, as well as the entire state. “We anticipate this Dollar Drive to be very successful and would like to thank Pizza Hut for helping the people of Aroostook County to give where they live,” she added.
Chris Thomas, manager of the Presque Isle restaurant, said as of Monday the current statewide campaign total stood at approximately $600.
