PATTEN, Maine — Over 70 townspeople gathered Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Patten Recreation Department for a birthday party to celebrate the northern Penobscot County community’s 175th anniversary of becoming a town.
On April 16, 1841, the bill that incorporated Patten as a Town became law. During the recent birthday celebration, Town Manager Raymond Foss read the original bill, approved by the Maine Senate and House of Representatives on April 16, 1841.
A special birthday cake and other refreshments were enjoyed and the band, Honky Tonk Heroes, led the assembled townspeople in singing “Happy Birthday” to our town. They also played music for party-goers until 8 p.m.
Foss thanked the persons who helped put on the event and reminded those in attendance that the majority of 175th birthday activities are going to be held during Patten Pioneer Days from August 8-14.
The town’s Board of Selectmen, he said, had asked Paula Sweeney of the Recreation Department and its Advisory Committee to organize a celebration on the date of the actual birthday.
