BREWER, Maine — Track athletes from Houlton, Greater Houlton Christian Academy and East Grand journeyed to Brewer last Thursday for their first meet of the season.
“Our squad of kids made up of students from Houlton High School, Greater Houlton Christian Academy and East Grand High School (32 in total) was severely undermanned in this first meet of the season,” said coach Chris Rines. “We certainly felt the effects of school vacation as only 16 kids were able to attend the meet, but nonetheless I was pleasantly surprised with the results that our kids were able to put up. We had a lot of good efforts to start the competitive part of the season and I think several students absolutely went beyond my expectations and most definitely surprised themselves.”
The girls team scores were: Brewer, 167.5; Old Town, 117.5; Hampden, 108; Belfast, 65; Mattanawcook, 29; Dexter, 26; Hermon, 23; Houlton, 16; Washington Academy, 11; Fort Fairfield, 9; and Greater Houlton Christian Academy, no score.

Amelia Hanning performed well in her first outing while the lone scorer, Rylee Warman, carried the team forward with a first place finish in the 1,600 and placing well in the 3,200.”
Rines added he was impressed with the field performances White and Bartlett.
“Our group of boys did amazing to score and place ahead several established programs,” Rines said. “Stand out performances came from Ethan Fletcher (100, 200, 400), Austin Brown (200, High Jump), Isaiah Brown (1600, 3200), and Timothy Glatter (Javelin, Discus).”
The coach said Fletcher paced the scoring for Houlton with a win in 400, as well as good places in the 100 and 200. He added Isaiah Brown showed great endurance to strong second places each in the 1600 and 3200.
East Grand’s Trevor Fronczak had a great debut in the 1600 scoring a point for the Vikings, while Cole Winslow was the lone GHCA Eagle to place.
