HOULTON, Maine — Bob Cleary of the Houlton Lodge of Elks No. 835 was presented the “Outstanding Exalted Ruler Award” for the state at the recent Maine Elks Association 87th State Convention. The award was presented to him by Second Vice President and First Lady, Susan Bernier Piper and President Don Piper.
The Houlton Lodge of Elks No. 835 sent 11 representatives to the convention where the lodge also received the Drug Awareness Award for Best Program for Lodges sized 301-500. Kalle Neureuther, a seventh-grader at Houlton Middle School, was honored for her winning drug awareness essay based on the theme “Just don’t do it!” Neureuther and her family attended the convention where she read her essay and accepted her award.
Scholarship winners were announced and one of the winners of the National Elks Legacy Award Scholarships was Chelsea Gentle of Houlton, who will receive $1,000 for four years. June Choi, another HHS senior, was also awarded a $1,000 Maine Elks Association Scholarships. Both were sponsored by the Houlton Lodge.
