AUGUSTA — Maine humorist Gary Crocker will be the keynote speaker at the Maine Association of Retirees’ annual meeting May 25 at the Augusta Civic Center.

Crocker is a Maine Public Service retiree and will focus his humorous remarks on his views on being a retired public employee.

The doors will open at 8 a.m. with refreshments and beverages and the meeting will start at 9 a.m. with lunch at noon.

Pre-registration is $10 per person, and non-members are welcome to attend with a member.

The group will install new executive officers and discuss such topics as technology for seniors, dental insurance, MAR legislative efforts, Social Security windfall and government pension offset, as well as adopt a 2016-17 budget.

The registration deadline is May 18. Call the MAR office at 582-1960 or email MAR at www.mar@maineretirees.org.

The association is a member driven, non-partisan, non-profit organization of about 14,000 Maine retired state employees, retired public school educators and retired local public district employees who receive pensions from the Maine Public Employees Retirement System.

MAR’s overarching mission is to protect the state retirement fund and advocate for the rights of public sector retirees in Maine to ensure a healthy and enriched life.
