PORTLAND — Justin Frederick “Fred” Weber, 95, passed away peacefully at his home on May 6, 2016.
Fred was born and grew up in Howard Beach, Long Island. He graduated from the Academy of Aeronautics as an aircraft mechanic and served in the Army Air Corps from 1943-1945. He worked for Northeast Airlines in Houlton, Presque Isle, Old Town, and Bangor, ending his career working for Delta Airlines in Bangor. He lived in Brewer where he served on the Zoning Board of Appeals.
In 1973, he began a second career as a licensed Realtor, working for American Heritage in Bangor. Fred was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many summers surrounded by family and friends at his camp on Holbrook Pond in East Holden.
A woodworker extraordinaire, he was a member of the United Maine Craftsmen and sold his turned pieces, wooden toys, and signature rocking horses at many craft fairs. After retirement, he and Edith traveled the country visiting many National Parks. They spent the winter months as volunteers at the Africa Inland Mission Retirement Center in Clermont, Fl. For several years they lived in Augusta and attended Hope Baptist Church. In 2007 they moved to The Woods at Canco in Portland where they made many new friends. Fred leaves behind his beloved wife of seventy-one years, Edith Dickinson Weber, and his two children, Carlene Craib and her husband, Doug, of Westford, MA, and Ted Weber and his wife, Dawn, of Cumberland, ME. He was predeceased by his daughter Ellen Nimon. He also leaves six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, who were the joy of his life.
