SACS announces senior honor parts

DYER BROOK, Maine — Jonathan Porter, principal at Southern Aroostook Community School, has announced the Honor Parts for the Class of 2016.

Kaitlin S. Small
Valedictorian  

Kaitlin S. Small has been chosen as valedictorian, while Mariah M. Lane was selected as salutatorian. Joshua S. Perrin was named first honor essayist and Dakota R. Dickinson was chosen as second honor essayist.

Small is the daughter of Dennis and April Small. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Yearbook and Civil Rights Team. She has held office of secretary/vice president of her class, vice president of the Student Council and treasurer of NHS.

Small has volunteered for the annual clothing drive, has volunteered with the Good Shepherd Food Bank, and the NHS Blood Drive. She was selected to attend Girls State and also received the Phi Beta Kappa award. She enjoys reading, gardening and hiking. She works at Vacationland Estates Resort in the office.

Small plans to attend University of Hartford in Connecticut in the fall in the Honors Program majoring in accounting and a minor in economics.

Mariah M. Lane
Salutatorian  

Lane is the daughter of Torry and Hilary Lane. She is a member of the National Honor Society, is the manager of the varsity boys baseball team and is class president and also secretary of NHS. Lane received the Maine Principal’s Award and was also the recipient of the Maine Youth Leadership award. She attended Girls State. She enjoys reading and writing and is employed as cashier at Oakfield Thriftway.

Lane has been accepted to the University of Maine at Fort Kent in the nursing program.


Joshua S. Perrin
First Honors Essayist  

Perrin is the son of Scott and Michelle Perrin. He has participated in varsity baseball and varsity soccer throughout high school and was chosen All-Aroostook in both baseball and soccer. He is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as president. He has also been active in Student Council, serving as president and is currently vice president of the senior class.

Perrin was chosen by staff to attend Boys State, was chosen for Aroostook League Scholar athlete and chosen Student of the Quarter. He has received academic awards in Spanish, geometry and world history. He enjoys hunting, fishing, swimming and skiing and he also works at Jerry’s Thriftway.

Perrin has been accepted to Maine Maritime Academy where he will study marine engineering.


Dakota R. 
Dickinson
Second Honors Essayist  

Dickinson is the daughter Peter and Beverly Dickinson. She has volunteered with the annual clothing drive, the Good Shepherd Food Bank and the NHS Blood Drive. She has been secretary/treasurer of her class. Dickinson was selected to attend Girls State and was the recipient of the Prudential award. Dakota is employed as office assistant at Madigan Estates Nursing Home. She enjoys hunting, fishing and four wheeling.

Dickinson will be attending Husson University in the fall in the physical therapy/kinesiology program.
